This monograph was originally a series of lectures delivered under the auspices of Islamic Research Association, Bombay on the 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st March 1931 by Allama Syed Sulaiman Nadvi, who according to Dr. Iqbal was one of the luminaries of Islamic learning. These lectures received wide admiration for their penetrating research, careful marshalling of facts, well-balanced critical judgement, abundance of useful material and animating descriptions of the adventurous spirit and hazardous enterprises of Arab Navigators.
