In the political theory of Islam as a world-historic movement, the Caliphate as an institution occupies the central position. The author’s short but brilliant treatise is the best study of the subject during the Middle Ages that has yet seen the light. The subject treated in this book was presented as a thesis for the degree of Ph.D. at the London University in 1934.
